A 57-year-old man was arrested Wednesday during a police firearms operation in Sainte-Marie-de-Blandford in Centre-du-Québec.
The search carried out in a residence located in rue des Bosquets and in a car led to the seizure of a loaded handgun, a homemade firearm, a pellet handgun and projectiles, ammunition , a crossbow and knives.
The apprehended suspect, Berthier Nolin, 57, of Ste-Marie-de-Blandford, appeared at the Trois-Rivières courthouse on Wednesday to face a charge of assault with a weapon, in particular. He remained detained.
A firearm was also seized from him during his arrest.
The operation, led by police officers from the Trois-Rivières Major Crimes Investigation Team, followed an armed attack that occurred on the afternoon of August 16 in Sainte-Marie-de-Blandford, involving two people who know each other. The victim, a man in his thirties, was not injured.
The intervention was part of the provincial strategy CENTAURE, which has the mandate “to ensure constant pressure on organized crime and thus, to actively fight against the trafficking of illegal firearms in Quebec”.
