Three weeks after the unveiling of Hockey Canada’s action plan, more than half of Canadians (58%) say they are skeptical of the real impact that such a strategy can bring.

This is revealed by a survey by the firm Angus Reid, made public on Wednesday. This percentage rises to 62% among women, who say they are not very optimistic that the plan should improve the treatment of women and girls in hockey culture.
“That’s a significant amount of skepticism. So, if anything, Hockey Canada isn’t just sitting on top of a culture issue. It can also be on top of a pretty big trust issue,” Shachi Kurl, president of the Angus Reid Institute, said in an interview with Global News.
Still according to the survey, 58% of respondents who have an interest in junior hockey say they are following the situation with interest. Of this same group of respondents, 56% believe that harassment and sexual assault are a significant problem in the world of hockey.
A total of 2,279 Canadian Angus Reid Forum members completed the survey between August 8 and 10.
