After weeks of negotiations between France and the United Kingdom, some French fishermen still do not have the right to operate in British waters.

In Granville (Manche), the boats of some fishermen will remain at the quayside and will not be able to reach British waters. This is the case of Guillaume Lenoir. “Assessment of the operation: all they have done for practically a year, is the show off”, says the fisherman. The wait could be prolonged indefinitely, as the Minister of the Sea, Annick Girardin explained, Thursday, November 18: some fishermen could indeed never obtain the famous license.

The ideas of financial compensation or plans for leaving the fleet have been put forward in particular to help French fishermen who do not have one of the 150 licenses granted by the United Kingdom. a “abandonment of the fight” according to Pierre Vogel, patron-fisherman in Saint-Malo. An abandonment that would probably not offset the gains made by fishing in British waters, representing a quarter of the catches by French fishermen. Negotiations are still continuing between the two countries.
