New day of tension, Sunday August 7, between Israel and the Islamic Jihad, installed in the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian authorities speak of 41 dead, including children.
Pain, mourning and anger: supporters of Islamic Jihad paid their last respects on Sunday, August 7, to Khaled Mansour, one of the group’s military commanders, killed by an Israeli strike the day before, in the south of the Strip from Gaza. North of the Palestinian enclave, in the Jabalia camp, other funerals were held for children and civilians killed on Saturday evening. “In every house there is a martyr, and every mother has lost a child“, says a woman.
The Israeli army denies any involvement in the tragedy. “Islamic Jihad terrorists fired a rocket towards Israel, which landed in Gaza, hitting a Palestinian home near Jabalia”said Keren Hajioff, spokeswoman for the Israeli prime minister.
For the first time since the beginning of the confrontation, the response of the armed organization targeted Jerusalem. The day was tense as hundreds of Israelis gathered in the Old City for a Jewish holiday. By late afternoon in Gaza, Israeli missiles were still firing back at Palestinian rockets.
