after the victory, the sad confidence…

Adapted from the world show RuPaul’s Drag Race, launched thirteen years ago in the United States and which has since triumphed in many countries, the first French edition launched by France 2 has just ended in style. Faced with two formidable contenders, La Grande Dame and Soa de Muse, it was Paloma who, after 7 weeks of competition, won the crown! A Lé-Gen-Daire final, of course! In total, 10 queens took part in this exceptional adventure, each offering them a unique French and international showcase that allowed them to brilliantly showcase the art of French drag. They were able to show the extent of their talents to an already conquered public, but also to a population that discovered them. Because as Paloma points out: “Winning the crown is a very pleasant validation, but the real victory is to have touched an audience, to have perhaps moved people… and above all to be a representation for a whole community that has been invisible for too long. Let’s make history!” Beyond notoriety, let us nevertheless note the superb gifts offered to the victorious Paloma: a scepter and a crown from Carré Y, a trip to Mauritius by Tinder, 1 year of makeup by the Mac Cosmetics brand and a photo shoot by Elle magazine!
But behind the sequins, the make-up and the splendid outfits, Paloma hides a very sad personal story… During the last broadcast, the 30-year-old queen said she had a sad and lonely childhood in her city of Clermont-Ferrand. At the age of 10, his father abruptly left home. A shock ! A trauma that then plunges this little Hugo, who does not yet have a stage name, into a deep melancholy that he manages to overcome thanks to the songs of Mylène Framer. His muse. Besides, Paloma is a redhead too! “When I was little I would have liked to see such a program on television. To be represented.” She remembers after her victory, plunging back into her adolescent malaise. Difficult to be and to feel different from other boys of his age, in the provinces more surely than in New York. He who does not feel he belongs to any group then decides to launch himself, with passion, into the art of theatre, writing but also Drag. In 2018, Paloma performed solo or with her King Chefs & Drag Queens troupe in many cabarets and clubs in Paris. Until today become the First Queen of France! The one who, by her many talents, won over more than prestigious jurors –Olivier Rousteing, Jean Paul Gaultier or even Chantal Thomass-, but the hearts of the general public. And as Nicky Doll, host of Drag Race France exclaims: “ Long live the Queen Paloma!”
