The campaign has not yet started when Prime Minister François Legault announced the first electoral commitment of the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ), Friday morning in Laval. He promised to fund the construction of 11,700 “social and affordable” housing units, an investment valued at $1.8 billion.

The CAQ has also promised to extend the Rent Supplement Program to 7,200 additional units.
This approach will make it possible to build “thousands of new affordable housing units in regions where the needs are felt”, indicated the CAQ in a press release issued during the Prime Minister’s visit to Laval.
The party had called the media on Thursday for the “first electoral commitment of the Coalition avenir Québec”. The date for the start of the electoral campaign was still not announced.
Provincial elections are due to take place on October 3. The Prime Minister had mentioned “the 36 days of the campaign” in July, during the presentation of his candidate for the riding of Repentigny, the former journalist Pascale Déry. This scenario would start the campaign on Monday, August 29.
