The community of Lac-aux-Sables, in Mauricie, is shaken on Wednesday the day after a fatal collision between a car and a heavy truck on Route 153 where a young driver lost her life.
At the scene of the accident, a heart was painted red and flowers were placed on the edge of the road.
Relatives of the victim and family friends were present at the scene, visibly shaken by the tragedy.
Some are closely linked to the municipality of Lac-aux-Sables, which is why the intervention of the first responders and volunteer firefighters who arrived on the scene on Tuesday was extremely difficult psychologically.
“This accident was difficult for everyone involved in the emergency department. The municipality has already taken steps to provide them with the support they may need,” said the municipality.
Quite a shock also for the young trucker, aged in his early twenties, who was driving the heavy truck.
He was taken to hospital with minor injuries and nervous shock after the two cars caught fire.
The circumstances of the accident are yet to be determined.
“With the elements collected so far, for the probable causes, we look more on the side of distraction, false maneuver, is it the lack of experience? These are a few of the causes that are being explored at the moment. The investigation is not over,” explained the spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, Éloïse Cossette.
At the end of the day on Wednesday, other flowers were placed at the edge of the road in honor of the young girl who lost her life on Tuesday afternoon.
