vaccination in pharmacies tested in five pharmacies in France

The Ministry of Health will experiment with vaccination against monkeypox in pharmacies, he said on Monday evening. Five pharmacies, located in Lille, Paris, Marseille and Fréjus, will be authorized to vaccinate people against monkeypox, from Wednesday. Two pharmacies have been selected in the capital. All are located near hospitals that are able to store vaccines at -80°C.

A report will be made in 15 days at the end of this experiment and could lead to an extension of vaccination in other pharmacies. The Ministry of Health explains to AFP that the objective is to test the “organizational models between the pharmacies and the hospitals that receive the doses”and “to assess whether there is no dose loss”.

The injections will be offered to the people most at risk, that is to say to homosexuals who have several partners and to sex workers, who do not always find an appointment slot in the hundred open centers.

As of August 4, more than 2,400 cases of monkeypox have been identified in France. On the same date, only 18,500 of the 250,000 eligible people had been vaccinated.
