All four victims were hospitalized. According to the Vancouver Police Department, patrol officers were dispatched to a rooming house in the Granville Entertainment District on Saturday after a resident set fire to his room before assaulting four people.
Also according to the police version, the suspect would have confronted the patrol officers while he was still armed. The police responded by opening fire and wounding the suspect with a bullet.
This violent conclusion prompted an investigation by the British Columbia Office of Independent Investigations.
In a statement, the office revealed that the injured suspect was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries that would not be life threatening.
The charges that could be filed against the individual have not been specified.
