Gérard Depardieu very close to a famous singer: “We loved each other a lot…”

Since 2017, Gérard Depardieu has been singing Barbara with a lot of passion in his voice. He first released an album in homage to the singer, in February, then interpreted the titles of the famous woman in black on stage, almost everywhere in France. It is this spectacle, moreover, that he has chosen to deliver on August 6 during his visit to the Lacoste Festival, an event created by Pierre Cardin which takes place in the Vaucluse. His relationship with the artist, who died in November 1997 at the age of 67, was so strong that he wants to see her live in him a little more. And offer this fusion to the public.

She’s an extraordinary woman… we loved each other very much

“With Barbara, we had the same savagery, the same violence inside, explains Gérard Depardieu in the columns of the newspaper Provence, July 30, 2022. She is an extraordinary woman. His songs had an absolutely amazing verb.” Friends, colleagues, the two artists had the opportunity to collaborate together on stage in the 1980s in an opera, a sort of naive tale, which was called Lily Passion. “It was amazing, continues the 73-year-old actor. I had wonderful years. JI’ve never seen such enthusiasm from the people Barbara was talking to, from the women throwing themselves under the car…we loved each other a lot.”

On August 6, 2022, Gérard Depardieu will enchant the Lacoste Festival audience with Gérard Daguerre, the pianist who played his magic keyboard with Barbara. The bonds that the comedian had forged with her were, after all, indestructible. One of the last songs she sang during her lifetime was called By dint of. However, it had been written by Guillaume Depardieu – who died in 2008, aged 37, in Garches hospital following pneumonia. These two have, at least, found themselves up there to be able to toast again…
