A loss of contract forces the Canadian division of the French aircraft manufacturer Daher to take a step back, but the director of Daher Aerospace Canada is already working on resuming activities next year.

“We have a project to create a multi-client logistics center with a view to doing logistics subcontracting,” said Thierry Boitier, director of Daher Canada, in an interview. This is something that we would like to open by the end of the year or in 2023. By federating different companies, we could have a building, for example, of 5500 square meters (60,000 square feet) and then the subdivide into five or six sections depending on the number of customers.
“We would like to be halfway between the island of Montreal and Mirabel airport to get closer to the various Mirabel aeronautics,” he said.
Dismissal of 121 workers
Tuesday, The Press reported that Daher Canada’s logistics employees would be laid off by December due to the end of a contract. The notice affects 121 people working at 550, rue McArthur, in the borough of Saint-Laurent, in Montreal. At this location, Daher had been taking care of logistics for a single client since November 2020. In June 2021, the company had carried out a recruitment campaign aimed at hiring 100 people.
If new contracts are slow to be signed, there will only be 10 to 15 people left working for Daher Aerospace Canada on December 31.
Seventh-largest aircraft manufacturer in the world in general and business aviation with its Kodiak and TBM aircraft, Daher also has an aeronautical equipment and systems division and a third division devoted to logistics. The layoff notice affects the logistics division.
The worldwide revenues of the company, which is headquartered in Orly, amounted to 1.1 billion euros (about 1.45 billion Canadian dollars) in 2021. The company is active in 13 countries. It has been present in Canada since 2017.
