Two young men, aged 19 and 25, were indicted on Saturday for “rape in a meeting” on the sidelines of the Bayonne Festival, France Bleu Pays Basque said on Tuesday August 2. The youngest denies the facts while the oldest recognizes them, according to the Bayonne prosecutor’s office.
The two men are accused of having raped a young woman in the apartment of one of them after the closing of bars and restaurants during the second evening of the Bayonne Festival, on the night of Thursday to Friday. They were arrested on Friday then indicted on Saturday and released under judicial control.
They risk 20 years in prison.
The Bayonne public prosecutor’s office, which had requested the provisional detention of the two suspects, appealed the decision of the judge of freedoms and detention. The two individuals must now be heard by the investigating judge. They risk up to 20 years in prison.
During these holidays, the authorities recorded one rape, four complaints of violence, 60 complaints of injections and nearly 150 thefts. 36 people had been placed in police custody, according to a report given by the sub-prefect of Bayonne to France Bleu Pays Basque on Tuesday, August 2 in the morning.
