The blaze, which was 437 hectares on Sunday, tripled in area in less than 24 hours according to the BC Wildfire Service. Evacuation advisories are in place “to protect a person’s health, safety or welfare or to limit property damage,” the regional district said in its written notice.
“We advise everyone to follow the order and leave the area immediately and find a safe place,” Adam Goodwin, the City of Penticton Emergency Services (ESS) Coordinator, said in a statement. .
“Staying with family or friends is an option we encourage or going to other accommodations if you can. This allows us to ensure that those who have no alternative are taken care of. Whichever option you choose, come to ESS or call us. We want to make sure everyone has all the support and information they need and everyone is safe,” Goodwin also suggested.
