Infant products are experiencing a sharp rise in prices in pharmacies, while prices are stable in supermarkets. A difference likely to push customers to favor mass distribution.
Infant products are experiencing a price increase in pharmacies, Monday, August 1. “Concretely, a milk that will be on average at 20 euros, it will go to between 22 and 24 euros”observes Patrick sitbonpharmacist. Manufacturers are announcing new increases from the start of the school year, indicating that the war in Ukraine is having an impact on prices, particularly of raw materials and packaging.
In two years, the price of infant milk has increased from 11% to 33%. The price of diapers is also increasing, up to 91%. “If there is a big increase in prices in pharmacies and the prices remain the same in the supermarket, indeed, we could possibly change”says a father. In supermarkets, these products are sold cheaper. “The major distributors do not want to lose the customers of these families (…) they are making efforts on this department, while on the others, there is inflation”explains Olivier Dauversretail specialist.
