The Music Midtown festival, which was to take place on September 17 and 18 in Atlanta, Georgia, was torpedoed. Its organizers confirmed the news Monday through a press release. My Chemical Romance, Future, Jack White and Fallout Boy were scheduled to perform there.

According to Billboard, the cancellation of the meeting is attributable to recent legislative changes which now prohibit the festival from banning firearms on its site, which is laid out on public land. Promoter Live Nation did not provide an additional explanation. In recent months, pro-gun groups have flooded the festival’s social media with comments, citing potential lawsuits.

Since 2014, gun license owners have been allowed to carry a gun in bars, churches, schools and other private businesses, with the owners’ consent. In 2019, the Supreme Court of the State of Georgia clarified that a private company that schedules a short-term event in a public place (park, street, etc.) cannot ban firearms.
