The first deaths outside Africa of patients affected by monkey pox have been observed: there is one in Brazil, two others in Spain, the most affected country in the world. In France, nearly 2,000 cases in total have already been recorded, all mild. 120 vaccination centers are now open nationwide.

Five people with monkeypox have already died in Africa. A 41-year-old man, also a carrier of the disease, died in Brazil. He is a patient with comorbidities and a history of chemotherapy treatment. There is reason to believe that the cause of death is related to the virus“, says Daniel Pereira, the Brazilian Minister of Health. Another country where people infected with the virus have died is Spain. However, authorities did not give specific causes of death.

The epidemic is progressing on a global scale and 22,717 cases have so far been recorded on the planet. The number of cases is highest in the United States, with 5,189 people who have contracted the disease. Spain is in second place while France has 1,955 cases. Mathematically, there will be severe evolutions of this infection in very immunocompromised people. Apart from these particular people, in general population, there is no reason to be worried“, tempers the professor Jean-Daniel Hareinfectious disease specialist. In France, the vaccination campaign is intensifying.
