Did you know that in Indre-et-Loire there is an “environmental police”? Its sixteen agents control in particular proper application of water restriction decrees. Since the beginning of the summer, the prefecture of Indre-et-Loire has taken several to preserve water resources in the face of drought.
The restrictions concern 75% of Indre-et-Loire
“There we can see that the lawn needs water”, notes François Joubert arriving in front of the Gloriette golf course. Only the green of the golf course is green, confirming that the rest of the lawn has not been watered for a long time. Consequence of one of the many water restrictions, which on July 29 concerned nearly 75% of the department.
This is far from the first time such measures have been taken, but summer has never been so dry. “Today we go back to the year 1976 to have an equivalent year. We are in an exceptional situation”explains Damien Lamotte, the departmental director of the territories.

Well aware of what is at stake, at the Gloriette golf course, director Jacques Van Hauwe pays attention beyond the decrees: “For example, we don’t systematically water at night, we decide day by day.” But he admits worry about the future of their business. “We inevitably have fears, in particular of no longer being able to water the greens. And there, we might as well close the shop.”
