It is not because we have a small budget that we do not have the right to eat well: the city of Amiens is launching an experiment to fight against food insecurity, which is aimed at low-income households. She is looking for 300 families to support for 10 months. Fifty have already taken the plunge.
Packed lunches and workshops to learn how to eat well
The operation consists first of all in the distribution of 10 meal baskets per household, with fruit and vegetables from farms around Amiens : “Zucchini, potato, carrots, lettuce and finally tomatoes!” details Nadine, who is taking part in the operation. “It’s not the kind of vegetables you’re used to seeing in the supermarket,” she underlines, showing the good quality of the products. The occasion, sometimes, to discover products that have never been cooked, such as kohlrabi: “My 16 year old daughter loved it!” she smiled.
Don’t panic if you don’t know how to cook all the products in the baskets: the accompaniment includes the participation in a cooking workshop, “zero waste” Furthermore. He delighted Judith: “I learned how to make a cake with carrot tops. It’s delicious, without chemicals, and it’s good for your health.“It is all the more appreciable that with inflation, these products are out of reach for this retiree.
There are plenty of places left in the device
With this experiment, the CCAS of Amiens intends to offer global support: “trying to change eating habits and behaviors, describes Richard Brunet, while promoting social ties through our cooking workshops and outings.” The 35,000 euro project is financed by the state poverty plan. Of the 300 places available, around fifty families have taken the step.
The CCAS is therefore launching a call for volunteers, subject to income. The system is open to households whose living allowance does not exceed 1,300 euros. Retired, unemployed, working poor can benefit from it. If you are interested, please contact your local town hall.
