The number of sexist contempt offenses was 2,300 in 2021 in France, compared to 1,405 in 2020, according to figures released on Thursday by the Ministry of the Interior. 91% of victims of sexist insults are women and 61% are under 30, of which 23% are minor victims. “The perpetrators are almost exclusively men, mostly adults“, specifies the ministry.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, three-quarters of the offenses noted (75%) are “sexist insults that violate dignity or create an intimidating, hostile or offensive situation imposed on a person“. In second place, sexist outrages on minors under fifteen represent 6% of outrages, while “contempt committed because of the sexual orientation of the victim“, committed mainly against men, represent 5% of outrages.
