Despite the decrees drastically limiting the use of water in Lozère, the weather forecasts justify a strengthening of the restrictions. During the meeting of the “water resources” committee this Wednesday, the participants agreed on the need to pass all the Lozère basins in a crisis situation. The prefect then declined the restrictions that such a development would imply. These are, for example:
• the prohibition of washing and cleaning of roads, car parks, terraces, balconies and facades except for sanitary requirements
• the ban on watering green spaces, lawns and pleasure gardens (watering vegetable gardens is still authorized under certain conditions)
• the prohibition of the watering of stadiums and sports areas, except with special authorization
• the complete ban on the filling of swimming pools and ornamental ponds, except public swimming pools.
All users whose daily consumption exceeds 30m3 of water per day, whether private operators or public services, are called upon to define and implement an internal water saving plan and to communicate it without delay to the prefecture.
A “drinking water drought” crisis unit
Faced with the difficulties of drinking water supply faced by a growing number of municipalities and inter-municipalities, the prefect and the president of the departmental council have agreed to set up a “drought drinking water” crisis unit., which will meet weekly. This body will gather all information relating to the concrete consequences of the drought, with a view to advising and supporting the authorities responsible for drinking water.
