Two people are believed to have died following multiple shootings that occurred early Monday morning in the town of Langley, British Columbia. A third is said to be in critical condition, and another is said to be seriously injured. The suspect, who is also believed to be deceased, was targeting homeless people, according to the RCMP.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) say they have identified several shooting scenes in the town of Langley and another in the township of Langley, shortly before 6 a.m. Monday morning. The victims are homeless, RCMP confirmed to CBC.
There are two dead, one person in critical condition, and a fourth person with serious injuries, according to information from CBC. Police also said the suspect was shot dead by officers at the scene. He would have acted alone.
“At this time, we do not know the motive for this fatal incident, or whether there was a relationship between the deceased suspect and the victims,” RCMP Lower Mainland District Officer Superintendent Ghalib Bhay said. to a journalist from Globe and Mail.
A homeless man who did not wish to reveal his identity told the Vancouver Sun he was told that another homeless man had been shot, and saw paramedics trying to resuscitate him.
Another witness, Jess Lee, told the outlet that she was on her way to work at the Langley Bypass when her car was blocked by a large armed police presence on 200e street.
As a safety precaution, an alert had been issued on cellphones to residents until investigators could confirm the suspect was acting alone.
The alert described a “white, black-haired” man, with a “brown Carhatt coverall, blue and green camouflage t-shirt with a red logo on the right sleeve.” The man was “associated with a white car”.
“Langley RCMP, with the assistance of the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team, have arrested a man who we believe is responsible for the shooting,” authorities said at the time, stating that the suspect was taken into custody.
