(Whistler) Two people were killed in a shooting Sunday midday that closed the station in Whistler Blackcomb, British Columbia, reports the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

In a statement, RCMP say two people were arrested in connection with the attack in the resort village near the Sundial Hotel around 12:19 p.m.
They said one person died at the scene and another succumbed to injuries at a local medical clinic.
Police say they don’t know if the shooting and a recently discovered burnt-out car are related, or if there are links to an ongoing gang dispute.
British Columbia’s anti-gang agency, the Joint Organized Crime Investigation Unit, said it is aware of the shooting and will assist lead investigators from the Integrated Crime Investigation Team as needed. homicides.
Whistler Blackcomb spokeswoman Sara Roston said in an email that RCMP have cleared the Whistler area of imminent danger, but the resort is closed for the day out of respect for guests and those affected by the storm. shooting.
Mme Roston says staff have temporarily resumed operations to allow customers to descend the mountain in chairlifts and gondolas and leave safely.
“We are shocked and deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence, and we stand with our community,” she wrote in the email.
RCMP say that although the attack occurred “out in the open” in an area of the village, officers believe there is no ongoing risk to the public.
