Friday evening July 22, the two fires in Gironde are contained but not yet fixed, according to the prefect. In this fight against the flames, which could last a few more weeks, many firefighters come from all over France. Journalist Alexis Gaucher went to interview firefighters returning to their department after coming to lend a hand on the spot. This is particularly the case for the Essonne firefighters.

Lieutenant-Colonel David Anotel explains that his men “have a sense of accomplishment“. It evokes “an exhausting week but which has started to bear fruit for two days since the fires have decreased in intensity“. Faced with the scale of the fires and the task to be accomplished, the firefighters mobilized were only able to grant themselves moments of respite”moments of break which were unfortunately, very often, limited to two, three hours of sleep“, testifies the lieutenant-colonel.
