The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 4.7% year over year in October in Canada, after rising 4.4% in September.
The agency says this is the largest year-over-year increase in the CPI since February 2003.
Factors behind the rise in inflation include supply chain challenges, price increases at the pump, and comparisons to lows seen a year earlier.
According to Statistics Canada, gasoline prices rose 41.7% from October 2020, the fastest increase since last May.
Excluding energy, Statistics Canada indicates that the Consumer Price Index would have increased by 3.3% last month compared to October 2020.
