The work cost nearly €1,630,000, largely financed by the Métropole de Châteauroux. In total, five cycle bridges were placed on rue du 3eme Régiment d’avion de chasseur, in the district of Bitray in Châteauroux. The last three were installed this Wednesday, July 20. “It’s a small job, but you have to be thorough. The footbridges are between 15 and 20 meters, and several tens of tons“, explains the site manager. Two cranes and three workers worked all day to lift the footbridges and lay the bridge deck that will support future cyclists.
The concrete slabs will be poured by the end of July. Work is expected to be completed by early October. The construction will have no impact on traffic.
Make the road accessible to cyclists
Until now, cyclists who wanted to use this axis had to stay on the same road as motorists. “It was a black point because it is narrow. It was impossible to make a bike path on the same lane. We had no other option but to set up these bridges“, specifies Didier Duvergne, vice-president of the Métropole de Châteauroux delegate for Works. The city councilor also hopes that thanks to these installations, the road will be even more used by cyclists to reach the city center of Châteauroux. “For two years, the Metropolis has chosen to make routes for cyclists. It is in the continuation of this logic. We must continue to promote it because it will encourage residents to travel by bike“, advances Didier Duvergne. In Déols, cycle paths must also be improved.
