One of the players involved in the alleged gang rape camouflaged by Hockey Canada contacted the complainant the day after the events, reveals the daily The Globe and Mail.
According to the daily article, the player asked the young woman by text message if she had filed a complaint with the police in relation to the events of the previous day. The woman replied that she told the story to her mother, who then contacted the police without telling her daughter.
“But you said you were having fun,” replied the player, who is not identified, by text message. “I was really drunk, I didn’t feel good at all about that afterwards, she replied. But I don’t want to confuse anyone. »
She then shared her feelings with the player: “I agreed to go with you, but all those who arrived after, I did not expect it. I felt like I was being laughed at and taken advantage of. »
The player then hastened to dissuade the alleged victim from continuing the complaint process: “You have to talk to your mother right away and clear things up with the police before it goes too far. It’s a serious matter that she distorts and that could have consequences for many people, including you. »
The woman then apologized for “the troubles she could have caused”, according to the daily. “Can you please find a way to make this go away and contact the police?” “added the player.
The player then allegedly texted the woman several times in the following hours to ask if she had contacted the police. “I appreciate that you’re about to put a stop to this and I know it can’t be easy for you to call the police and say it was a mistake,” he told her. writing.
The woman finally complied and wrote to him the same evening: “I told them that I would not go any further and that it was a mistake. You should be correct now and I hope nothing else comes out. »
These texts were shown to the Globe and Mail by the lawyers of seven of the eight players involved in the scandal that Hockey Canada has been the subject of for several weeks now, the organization being accused of having concealed the affair since it settled it out of court, thus avoiding a trial.
Two videos
the Globe and Mail also obtained two videos believed to have been taken the night of the alleged assault, June 19, 2018. The first video, recorded at 3:25 a.m., reportedly shows a woman from the neck down. A man’s voice would ask him “Are you okay with that?” to which she would respond, “I’m okay with that.”
The second video, captured at 4:26 a.m., reportedly shows the same woman draped in a bath towel. “Are you recording me?” she asks. Okay that’s good. Everything was consensual. You are so paranoid. I liked it, it was good. Everything was consensual. I’m so sober, that’s why I can’t do this right now. »
The article of Globe and Mail mentions that “the identity of the people who filmed the video and the reasons that led them to do so” are unclear, as is “what the woman is talking about”.
These new elements come the day after it was revealed that Hockey Canada has a fund specifically dedicated to compensating for liabilities that are not covered by its insurance, which includes claims for sexual assault.
