The heatwaves that are increasing in France are having a major impact on farmers and winegrowers, who fear a considerable drop in their yield.
It is a difficult year for the agricultural community. The high temperatures, coupled with the drought, affect agricultural fields and other vineyards. In Chignin in Savoie, where it has not rained for three months, the vineyards of this winegrower are burning under the sun. “On the lower leaves we see some traces of scalding, that is to say sunburn. It’s about time it rains”, he hopes.
Same story in Ile de France, where the 40 degrees make Olivier Gousseau’s beet fields thirsty. “Normally we should see a beautiful bouquet of leaves, there the leaves have almost disappeared, I lost at least 30% of my beets”, regrets the cereal farmer. A considerable drop which is not without consequence on the yields of the man who describes “We will still lose every day, I ask myself the question of stopping the beets. It’s not a lottery agriculture, I need an income, I can’t afford to play with the climate”.
