Large cities, such as Tours and Angers, rely on greening to create islands of freshness.

Every year, temperature records are broken in France. Cities must adapt to this new climate. In Tours (Indre-et-Loire), schools are planted every year. That’s six so far. Trees have been planted, as well as a vegetable garden. The operation is virtuous. On the side of Angers (Maine-et-Loire), it is green, everywhere, to fight against the heat. In the plant capital, it takes 100 m² of greenery per inhabitant, which is twice the national average.

Near dwellings, depending on the vegetation cover, the temperature can drop by two to four degrees. A coating in light colors and permeable to rain replaces the tar. Another option has been favored in the United States. In New York and Los Angeles, the roads are covered in white paint. In San Francisco, it even became mandatory in 2005 for new commercial buildings or with each renovation.
