Les Bleues hooked by Iceland before the quarter-finals

Les Bleues surprised at the last second! France was hooked by Iceland after an incredible scenario and a penalty whistled in the 101st minute of play! A penalty converted by Brynjarsdottir one hundred minutes after Melvine Malard opened the scoring after … 43 seconds.

Les Bleues badly rewarded

The French have had the opportunity to take shelter. But the Icelandic uprights repelled attempts by Sandy Baltimore (55th) and Grace Geyoro (67th). Geyoro who even thought he scored the second French goal at the end of regulation time (88th), but a goal was refused by the evening referee. Identical decision against Melvine Malard a little earlier (68th).

France thought of chaining a third success in as many group matches. But no 3 on 3 for the Blues who still showed interesting streaks against Icelanders who absolutely had to win in order to qualify for the quarter-finals.

No records

The French team therefore does not equal the record for number of consecutive wins. A series that could have been increased to 17, equal to that of 2012. At the time, Bruno Bini’s Bleues lost against the United States … in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

The quarter-final stage, a stage of the competition which does not succeed for the French. France remains on five quarter-finals in a row lost in official competition. The last time was during the London Olympics in 2012.

France – Netherlands on France Blue

This draw against Iceland has no impact on the rest of the competition for France. The selection of Corinne Deacon was already guaranteed to finish first in group D and to face the Netherlands in the quarter-finals.

The France – Netherlands match will be to follow this Saturday from 9 p.m. on the antennas of France Bleu!
