In pre-trial detention since August 28 in England, Benjamin Mendy is still awaiting his trial which should take place on January 24, by the court of Chester (Cheshire). The Manchester City defender faces four counts of rape and one of sexual assault, allegedly committed between October 2020 and August 2021. His club said at the time: “The matter is undergoing legal proceedings and the club is therefore unable to comment further until such proceedings are completed.”
A few weeks ago, the former player of Olympique de Marseille and AS Monaco, had seen his request for release on bail refused for the third time. But according to the Crown Prosecution Service, the British Prosecution Service, the 27-year-old was charged with two additional charges of rape on Tuesday, November 16. The charges relate to four complainants over the age of 16. He also indicated that the 2018 world champion had been summoned to appear before the Stockport criminal court, this Wednesday, November 17.
The troubles keep piling up for Kylian Mbappé’s former teammate!
Before finding himself behind bars, Benjamin Mendy saw his career punctuated by injuries. Non-sporting affairs have tarnished its image. In the fall of 2020, police confiscated his Lamborghini, worth more than 500,000 euros, which he was driving without a license or insurance. He had pleaded guilty and had been sentenced to a fine of just over 1,000 euros. A few weeks later, he was sanctioned by his club after violating the health protocol put in place in the face of the Covid-19 epidemic, by organizing New Year’s Eve at home.
