In Kramatorsk (Ukraine), the place of peace is gutted by a Russian bombardment. This city of 150,000 inhabitants, located in the Donbass and still under Ukrainian control, was targeted on the night of Friday July 15 to Saturday July 16. She does not deplore any casualties because the attack took place after curfew but some have decided to evacuate the city. A bus chartered by an NGO leaves for the west of the country. The civilians are torn between the sadness of leaving their homes and the fear of being targeted by Russian fire.

While some have fled Kramatorsk, others have chosen to stay here as the sirens sound. “If we leave, it’s impossible to find work. It’s very expensive to settle elsewhere, that’s why a lot of people leave and come back. Any place can be bombed and you can’t not leave the country because we only have one child, that’s why we stayed”, explains Karyna Ponomarenko, a resident. The bombing of the city comes the day after strikes that devastated the center of Vinnytsia, in the west of the country, killing at least 23 people and injuring more than 200 according to the Ukrainian authorities.
