Hot in front! | The Journal of Montreal

The next two days will be marked by strong heat accompanied by humidity as Quebec could experience its first heat wave of the summer.

Unlike yesterday when the weather was rather dry, the humidity will be there today and should stay for a few days.

The mercury could reach 30°C on Sunday with a humidity of 34, then rise to 32°C on Monday with a felt heat of 36 in Montreal.

The strong heat will be concentrated mainly in the south of the province, from the Outaouais to Trois-Rivières.

“We are not talking about record temperatures, but what will be significant are the nights, especially in Montreal, where the mercury will have difficulty dropping below 20 degrees,” explains Guillaume Perron, meteorologist at Environment Canada.

The province could experience its first heat wave of the season, but its second of the year, when temperatures could exceed 30°C on three consecutive days, namely Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

The first this year was recorded in mid-May, when the province experienced its earliest heat wave since the late 19th century.

Nevertheless, temperatures since the beginning of summer have been within seasonal norms.

“If the trend continues, the second half of July should be warmer,” says Guillaume Perron.

Hydrate and rest

Although the heat is not overwhelming, good practices should still be adopted to avoid any complications.

“Feelings of 35, it’s not negligible. We advise people to drink plenty of water, to take regular breaks if working outside and to eat light, so no big meals of meat, for example,” suggests Guillaume Perron.
