To try to save energy, some young people do not hesitate to switch off store signs at night in an acrobatic way.
Pirouettes, somersaults and rolls to turn off the lights of shops at night, this is the objective that many groups in cities are launching to save energy by limiting night lighting. This initiative is praised by local residents who watch them do it. This task is a discipline that requires flexibility and determination, but always with respect for property. “The idea is not to degrade. It’s a benevolent movement“, reports one of the practitioners.
These young athletes do not practice this activity for their simple pleasure, but with a logic of energy saving. “Seeing so many signs lit up at night is an aberration for us and for us ecology is that too, it may be some civic actions“, argues Kevin Ha, member of a parkour collective. They seek to enforce the ban on lighting shops at night, an obligation which is not respected according to ecological associations. Merchants say they just want to make their store visible.
