Claimed off waivers last January, Pitlick tallied 26 points in 46 games with the Habs last season.
Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes said he didn’t want to make a qualifying offer to Rem Pitlick because he thought he had a good chance of having to pay him a lot more if the case had gone to arbitration.
“We love Rem. […] And we couldn’t take the risk of going in front of a referee. Unfortunately, due to our limits with the salary cap, we had to let it go in the free agent market. So by losing Ryan Poehling (included in the Jeff Petry trade), we had the space to repatriate him at an amount that we believe was fair. »
The Ottawa native has 39 points, including 15 goals, in 77 NHL games. The 25-year-old had a third-round pick from the Nashville Predators in 2016.
