We had to arm ourselves with patience. More than 800 km of cumulative traffic jams were recorded on Saturday July 16 on the country’s main roads used by holidaymakers, according to the Bison Futé website, which had classified the day as red in the direction of departures. The traffic peak was reached shortly before noon with 818 km of cumulative traffic jams, compared to 623 km last weekend and more than 1,000 km a year ago.
The Rhône valley is the busiest as usual, with around 120 km of slowdowns on the A7 motorway alone between Lyon and Orange. On the A9, in Languedoc, towards Spain, motorists must wait for nearly 70 km. The A10, which connects the Paris region to Bordeaux, is also one of the congested axes. Traffic is still expected to be heavy on Sunday in the return direction.
