NHL | Perron sets sail for Detroit; the very active Red Wings

The Quebec forward will now head to Detroit, having said yes to a new two-year, $9.5 million deal with the Red Wings.

The 34-year-old, first-round pick of the St. Louis Blues in 2007 (26^e in total), will therefore be a sixth team since the beginning of his career, in 2007-08. Besides the Blues, he also played for the Oilers, Penguins, Ducks and Golden Knights.

With the Blues last season, Perron played 67 games, scoring 27 goals and 30 assists.

Incredible fact: this is the first time, on his sixth career contract, that Perron will agree with a team other than the St. Louis Blues!

Ben Chiarot at the Wings

Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman had a pretty busy day.

In addition to Perron, he signed defender Ben Chiarot. The Red Wings gave him a 4-year contract, worth $4.75 million a year.

His previous contract, for a period of three years, had earned him an annual sum of 3.5 million. Detroit will therefore pay him 1.25 million more per season until 2026.

Chiarot started last season with the Canadiens, before being traded to the Florida Panthers a few days before the trade deadline.

Big Ben had 9 goals and 26 points in 74 games with the Habs and Panthers in 2021-22. He has just one point in 10 playoff games this spring.

Andrew Copp at the Red Wings

Andrew Copp leaves Madison Square Garden to join the Detroit Red Wings.

The Ann Arbor, Michigan-born forward joins his hometown team on a five-year deal worth $5.6 million a year.

He had 21 goals and 53 points with the Rangers and Jets in 2021-22.

The Wings also offered a two-year, $2.5 million a year contract to Dominik Kubalik. The latter, despite a season of 15 goals and 17 assists in 78 games with the Chicago Blackhawks, had not received a qualifying offer.
