The consumer price index rose 9.1% in June in the United States. On a monthly basis, the rise was 1.3% in June on a seasonally adjusted basis, after rising 1.0% in May, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The rise was broad-based, with the gasoline, housing and food indexes showing the largest swings. The energy index rose 7.5% during the month and contributed nearly half of the rise in the all-items index.
Inflation had reached a four-decade high in May, at 8.6% over one year and 1.0% over one month.
For June, the market expected an increase of 8.8% over one year and 1.1% over one month.
