Quebec City public security said it received several calls following strong winds in the Cap-Rouge marina area.
Broken branches and uprooted trees caused property damage and fires to trees touching power lines. Hydro-Quebec was called to the field.
Earlier in the evening, severe thunderstorm warnings capable of producing strong gusts and hail were in effect in several regions of Quebec, Environment Canada announced.
The regions affected were Beauce, Outaouais, Laurentides, Lanaudière, Greater Montreal, Drummondville, Mauricie, Capitale-Nationale, the Richelieu Valley and Vaudreuil-Soulanges-Huntingdon.
“Seek shelter immediately if a threatening weather phenomenon is approaching. Remember that severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes,” reads the federal agency’s website.
“Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Don’t forget: when thunder rumbles, get inside quickly,” Environment Canada reminded.
