What are the health risks of heat waves? The point with the doctor and journalist Damien Mascret, present, Monday, July 11, on the set of 19/20.
The elderly are the most vulnerable to heat waves. “There is a major risk of dehydration. When we are hot, we sweat, and when we sweat, we lose water and we lose salts”, explains the doctor and journalist Damien Mascret, present, Monday, July 11, on the set of 19/20. Elderly people must therefore regularly remember to hydrate themselves, “fractionally”.
Some foods, such as yogurt, fruits and vegetables, also contain water. Also beware of the risk of heat stroke. “Our body functions optimally when the ambient temperature is between 27 and 31 degrees. From 35 degrees, (…) everyone risks heat stroke”, adds the doctor. Here are some tips for protecting yourself from the heat: keep the shutters closed during the day, create drafts and go out early in the morning or late in the day.
