In the section “An idea for France” of 13 Hours, Monday July 11, the journalist Valérie Heurtel, present on set, is interested in a zoo-refuge for injured animals and then returns to other similar initiatives.

In a jumbo jet50 donkeys from the Middle East arrive in France. They were promised for butchery, and some were seized in the context of trafficking. Finally, it is at the zoo-refuge “La Tanière”, in Chartres (Eure-et-Loir)that they will be welcomed. They will join the 600 animals in the park, like Cannelle, a female macaque who has spent 19 years of her life in the laboratory. For a year this zoo-refuge has opened its doors to the public, visitors can discover the journey of each animal rescued by “La Tanière”, and often too dented to be released. The zoo-refuge lives only on donations and admissions from the public, and has already saved nearly 3,000 animals.

On the 13 Hours set, Monday July 11, journalist Valérie Hurtel comes back to other similar initiatives. In Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhone)a real estate agent features animals for adoption in his classifieds. “It’s up to you: either you take the apartment, or you take the animal, or you take both”explains the journalist. On the site Pabete.comindividuals are put in touch in order to keep their pets during the summer holidays.
