Mathilda May would never have thought of ending her vacation this way. On a trip to Bali, the 57-year-old actress, author and director had to interrupt her activities to be hospitalized.
On Instagram, this Monday, July 11, 2022, she shared a photo of her lying on a bed and infused which does not bode well. Mathilda May was unfortunately hard hit by the dengue virus, this disease transmitted by the bite of a mosquito. And from her room where she is taken care of, she can only realize “luck” she has “to be french“.
“Here I am nailed to a hospital bed in Bali, struck down by the Dengue virus. Difficult days, immobilized without being able to eat or drink (and other not very fun symptoms)“, she first explained. And to recall the “outstanding system” of health that there is in France compared to other countries, as on the island of Bali precisely. “It is clear that where I am, without mutual insurance, I would not have had access to this overpriced hospital (imagine with local salaries…) It is therefore the great luxury here to be able to be treated in hospital, as in many other countries, alas.. So I think of our French health system, which is dying when it is one of the most beautiful constructions of which France has always been able to be proud. Access to care for ALL is the basis of a just society. We must preserve at all costs this essential and exemplary human value“, she still wrote in the caption.
Through this publication, more than giving her news, Mathilda May wishes to raise awareness and calls for “defend the hospitals that are screaming and dying from not being heard“.”By fighting as they have always done, caregivers not only protect a system but they protect us, the patients, and all patients without distinction. I wish you health, and I wish all of us that our hospitals recover“, she concluded, specifying that she would be repatriated”in a few days“.
