(Nairobi) Kenyan Peres Jepchirchir, Olympic marathon champion, announced on Monday that she had to withdraw from the World Championships in Eugene, United States (July 15-24), due to a hip injury.

“I really wanted to go to Oregon, but I developed a hip injury during my training,” the 28-year-old told AFP.
“The doctor asked me to rest,” she added.
Olympic champion last summer in Sapporo, the double half-marathon world champion was the favorite for the 42,195 km event at the Worlds, after her victories in the prestigious New York (2021) and Boston marathons in spring.
Kenya will always be able to rely on reigning world champion Ruth Chepngetich.
