Hundreds of demonstrators opposing the conditional discharge of Trois-Rivières engineer Simon Houle are expected.

The objective of this event is to denounce the culture of impunity and to demand better access to care for victims of sexual violence.

Mélanie Lemay, one of the organizers of the event, believes that Judge Poliquin’s decision “is a bit like the tree that hides the forest.”

Thus, she hopes that the event will succeed in changing mentalities and the justice system.

“More than 95% of victims will not turn to the police,” she says.

She says the goal is to create dialogue to “see how it might be possible to facilitate access to reparation and healing for the vast majority of victims.”
