Due to a bad harvest in Canada and the war in Ukraine, jars of mustard are missing from supermarket shelves in France. However, a grocer in Isère managed to stock up on it.
Mustard becomes a rare commodity at the beginning of July. Countries around the world are short of mustard seeds, due to a poor harvest in Canada and war in Ukraine. Across France, shelves are emptying and stores are struggling to stock up. The shortage is such that it is derided on the Internet. There are pots at 100 or even 200 euros. A pot, largely dented, is even on sale at 450 euros.
And yet, in a grocery store in Isère, in Eyzin-Pinet, the precious condiment is not lacking. The manager, Laurent Berchet, found a channel on the Internet and managed to get supplies. With 400 jars sold in one morning, mustard attracts customers. A welcome income during this holiday period, during which there are fewer customers. In the grocery store, the pots are now rationed: no more than three per person.
