More and more seaside resorts are banning smoking on the beaches. 81% of French people are in favor of this choice. After Nice, Marseille, Saint-Nazaire, it is in Le Touquet that the measure has just been announced.
It is a banal gesture now prohibited. Since Saturday July 9, holidaymakers and residents no longer have the right to light their cigarette on the beach of Touquet (Pas-de-Calais). the Touquet is not the first city to adopt this measure. This was already the case in Ajaccio (South Corsica) or in Royan (Charente Maritime) and all the beaches of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhone). Even smokers welcome the news. “That way, I don’t smoke during the day, it’s very good”says a man. This environmental measure was implemented by the municipality. Patrols are already surveying the beaches. For the time being, they are only doing prevention. In France, it is estimated that around 24 billion cigarette butts are thrown on the ground each year.
