In Bessèges, in the Gard, residents were forced to leave their homes at night in the face of the threat of fire. The next day, the inhabitants are relieved to have returned to their homes, but still in shock.

In Bessèges (Gard), Thursday July 7, a fire devoured the forest and caused long hours of anguish to the inhabitants of the sector. At the end of the afternoon, a resident saw the fire coming straight to his house, but managed to save it. A little further on, a woman resigned herself to leaving her home. Faced with the dazzling advance of the flames, the firefighters had to evacuate 70 people. A family has taken refuge in a holiday center for the night.

Others were able to stay with their families, such as Liliane Descoures, who was still marked by this hasty evacuation on the morning of Friday July 8. “The flames were really very, very close, so we were very distressed”, says Noémie Bonefoy, his granddaughter. Thanks to the many firefighters on site, no casualties were reported. The evacuated residents were able to gradually return to their homes and recover from their emotions.
