The fashion dinner against AIDS, canceled in 2021 due to the pandemic, raised 726,000 euros on Thursday evening in Paris for the benefit of Sidaction, the French association for the fight against AIDS, the organizers announced.
In partnership with the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, this charity event brought together nearly 500 personalities, including fashion designers Jean-Paul Gaultier, Alexis Mabille and Victor & Rolf, actresses Rossy de Palma, Rachida Brakni and Elsa Zylberstein , singers Bilal Hassani, Carla Bruni, Pascal Obispo, Amanda Lear and Eddy de Pretto, and filmmaker Lukas Dhont.
“The fight against AIDS is today very weakened by the Covid. The pandemic has not helped matters with disruptions in terms of screening and access to care”said Professor Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, 2008 Nobel Prize in Medicine. “However, the Covid offers new opportunities with the strengthening of health systems and therapeutic innovations such as the RNA vaccine. Let’s all remain mobilized. The fight against AIDS needs you”added the president of Sidaction, created by Line Renaud and Pierre Bergé.
The funds collected will finance research programs and associations helping people living with HIV in France and abroad. According to the latest figures from UNAIDS, 37.7 million people were living with HIV worldwide in 2020 and more than one in four people still do not have access to treatment.
