The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) has opened an investigation into a group of young people who allegedly tried to pepper spray an apparently homeless man in Montreal last Thursday.

The attack occurred on June 30, around 4:15 p.m., in a metro car at the McGill station in downtown Montreal.
According to our information, a group of about six young people tried to spray pepper spray on an apparently homeless man, while filming themselves with their cell phones.
Once the car was immobilized, they fled on foot.
The pepper spray did not reach the targeted man, said Jean-Pierre Brabant, spokesperson for the SPVM. A 70-year-old woman was however affected. The Urgences-santé service was dispatched to the scene to treat her, and no hospitalization was required.
“It is considered an armed attack, explains Mr. Brabant. The police made a report for the investigators and a file was opened. »
Metro surveillance cameras could also be useful: “There will be images that will perhaps help us identify young people,” said Mr. Brabant.
The various homeless shelters contacted by The Press had not heard of this attack at the time these lines were written.
The investigation is still ongoing.
