Fiona is 22 years old and has been deaf since birth. In wanting to formalize her relationship with her spouse for their change of address, the young woman finds herself faced with difficulties: she risks losing her helpers. For Brut, she bears witness.
“When we registered with CAF to change address, they told her that if we wanted to officially couple, she would lose some of her aid. And if we want to go further, until marriage, she would lose all of her income.
Fiona has been deaf since birth. Now in a relationship, the young woman was surprised to find that she would lose her helpers if she formalizes her relationship.
“If tomorrow I get married, my adult disabled allowance, I lose it. And it will be the spouse who will take care of everything. A couple is 50/50, we both pay, we do things together”, confides Fiona.
For the young woman who values her independence, this decision is unfair. “I don’t want my spouse to pay everything for both of us”.
