Here it is, the dreaded stage of the cobblestones in this Tour de France 2022, Wednesday July 6. For this fifth meeting, the peloton will have to adapt: eleven cobbled sections are, in all, on the program for this short stage – 157 kilometers – but rugged between Lille and Arenberg Porte du Hainaut. There is a risk of breakage. Because, unlike a Paris-Roubaix or a Tour of Flanders where the teams send specialists, the whole peloton is faced with this difficulty. In history, some Tour favorites have already seen their hopes dashed on the cobbles.
Sparkling on Tuesday, the yellow jersey Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) could well pocket a new stage. But watch out for Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck), relatively discreet since the start of the Tour but very comfortable on the cobblestones and double winner of the Ronde. Peter Sagan (TotalEnergies), already victorious in Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders, or Florian Senechal (Quickstep), regional of the stage, can also make the trunk.
